Is PCOD Curable?
Before understanding the answer, lets first understand PCOD
Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD) is the second most common cause of absent periods (amenorrhea) for more than 3 months, also known as Stein-Leventhal syndrome. The three major organs connected in this disease are:
- Hypothalamus (part of the brain)
- Pituitary
- Ovary
This combination is known as the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis , and synchronization of this axis is necessary for an ovulatory menstrual cycle in the female reproductive age. PCOD commonly occurs between 13-35 years of age.
In a normal menstrual cycle, every month, the hypothalamus sends the hormone GnRH to stimulate the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland then secretes FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), which stimulates the follicle to reach its maximum size. Once the follicle reaches its maximum size, estrogen hormone signals the hypothalamus to stop the secretion of FSH and start the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH). Under the influence of LH, ovulation takes place, and the ovum implants in the uterus, ready for fertilization. After the failure of fertilization, progesterone signals the hypothalamus to stop the secretion of LH, leading to bleeding and the completion of the normal menstrual cycle.
What happens in PCOD?
In PCOD, lifestyle factors and emotional disturbances, along with work-related stress, affect the synchronization of the axis, disrupting the regular menstrual cycle of the female. Constant elevated levels of luteinizing hormone increase the androgen (a male hormone) in the ovary, which reduces the growth of the follicles, resulting in an increased number of immature follicles and leading to the enlargement of the ovary.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
- Abnormalities of GnRH
- Increased GnRH pulse frequency
- Increased LH level
- Defective Aromatization
- Elevated circulatory Estradiol
- Decreased production of SHBG
- Enlarged Ovaries
- Impaired interaction between signaling pathways with FSH and insulin-like growth factor
- Hyper echogenic ovarian stroma
- Ovarian hyperthecosis
- Genetics
- Insulin Resistance
- Insulin signaling pathway abnormalities
- Dyslipidemia
- X-syndrome
- Hyperinsulinemia
- Insulin resistance syndrome
- B cell dysfunction
- Post-receptor defect
- Decrease in insulin receptor
ANDROGEN EXCESS
Mid-follicular phase is affected, leading to immature growth of follicles. Premature follicular phase is affected, leading to activation of LH-secreted granulosa cells that cause immature growth of follicles.
Symptoms
- Hirsutism
- Acne
- Irregular bleeding
- Amenorrhea
- Android obesity
- Acanthosis nigricans
So as you understand the word PCOD/PCOS is built up of multiple individual disease and with homeopathy we can approach it and get permeant cure
Few most Common Problems of PCOD
1. No Periods
An elevated section of luteinizing hormones and no secretion of progesterone hormone lead to the absence of periods in PCOD patients.
Holistic Approach
Absence of periods is a symptom of PCOD patients. Certain medicines, along with an individual approach, help balance hormones and restore a regular menstrual cycle. The best way to treat the disease is by consulting a classical practitioner in homeopathy. Certain medicines like Pulsatilla, Cyclamen, and Folliculinum help regulate the menstrual cycle.
2. Spotting
In PCOD females, bleeding appears due to the rupture of capillaries from the lining of the uterus. Do not panic but wait until the capillaries completely rupture.
Holistic Approach
Do not treat the symptoms but the disease from within. Constitutional homeopathic medicines help regulate hormones, leading to regular menses in females suffering from PCOD. Thapsia, Bursa Pastoralis, and Erigeron can be helpful. Prescribe your medicines through consultation only.
3. Painful Periods
Increased prolactin produces painful periods in PCOD females.
Holistic Approach
Man is sick, not his organ. An organ can be diseased or the pathology can start once the resistance power is deranged. Never treat the nosological name of the patient but search for the hidden causative factor that produces the pathology in an organ. Treat the cause with an individualistic approach. Ciangihga and Thuja can be helpful.
4. Obesity
Increased waist-to-hip ratio compounded by increased body mass index is called android obesity. This fat is less sensitive to insulin sensitivity, and metabolic activity is closely linked, with waist circumference serving as a reliable indicator of abdominal fat mass. It is commonly utilized as a surrogate marker for abdominal obesity.
Holistic Approach
Diseases are the leaves of the tree, and causes to produce diseases are the roots of the tree. When a physician treats the leaf, the root, which is deteriorated, produces another disease, the leaf. So, it is essential to treat the root cause of the disease.
5. Embarrassment
Hirsutism, where facial hair or hair in unwanted areas affects the beauty of females. Facial hair affects the social gathering of females, leading to loneliness and sadness.
Holistic Approach
Resistance power, which governs our well-being, can range from any level – mental, emotional, physical. The concept of taking the case denotes recording the patient’s complaint in such a way that the picture of the disease is so complex that a physician can prescribe a suitable homeopathic remedy after determining the totality of the symptoms necessary to cure the disease, like Medorrhinum or Ophorinum.
6. Irritability and Weeping Disposition
Indicate disturbances on the emotional plane, which is crucial after the mental plane. An individual’s emotional health suffers when negative feelings like envy, jealousy, anguish, and sadness are harbored. Liberation from such emotions is key to restoring emotional well-being and overall health.
